I umpired baseball a lot when I was young. My daughter was playing softball and no umps showed up. She told her coach I had umpired and coach asked all the fans if anybody else wanted to ump. Nobody did.

So I volunteered. After about two innings of bitching I went to the screen and I said "you guys shut your mouths. The coach asked for volunteers and you all sat on your hands. So shut up."

Now, I am an adult male and pretty good sized.

I feel terribly for your daughter. I always ask players and coaches who complain about refs "How would you like to try to play without them?"

This is some shameful behavior from adults. Keep backing your daughter. If I were you I'd call the commissioner/league president and complain. Loudly.

When I coached my daughter's soccer team I told the parents "I will never hear anybody complain about the kids reffing. We are here for fun. Period."

And the parents were great. Your last sentence sums this up perfectly.
